For several decades, SVC has supplied Victorian councils with pit cover assets for municipal drainage infrastructure. Typically, pit covers have been made from reinforced concrete, which are strong and durable, but make access tricky for council maintenance crews due to the weight of the concrete covers or inserts. Over time, the industry has begun to accept lightweight polymeric covers that are much more user-friendly for maintenance. Due to the limitations of Australian manufacturing, polymeric products are currently only available to be imported from overseas. To combat this problem, SVC has developed a range of access covers that consist of a high-strength, environmentally friendly concrete frame (containing SCMs and recycled plastic aggregates), which houses a lightweight polymeric insert that still provides council maintenance crews with the same ease of access. This allows councils to choose a product that supports local, Australian manufacturing, while not compromising on the functional benefits of a lightweight product.
