100 YR CLEANUP

The 100YR CLEANUP is an initiative that maps out a vision to fund large-scale rubbish cleanups for the next 100 years. Because it's up to all of us to untrash the planet, not just today, not just tomorrow, but across multiple generations. For Year 1 of the 100YR CLEANUP, we'll aim to remove 15,000,000+ water bottles of rubbish from the planet, implemented through projects across Egypt, the 7 Seas, the Himalayas, and the Pacific. Find out more at 100yearcleanup.com.

Cleaning Up the Ocean

Our Forever Bottles (reusable dispensers) are made from plastic rubbish that we’ve pulled out of the ocean, beaches and landfill. So far we've removed the equivalent of 803,083 water bottles worth of rubbish from oceans and beaches! And thanks to our closed-loop, zero waste refill model, we've stopped the equivalent of 789,325 water bottles worth of rubbish from ending up in landfill.

From Landfill to Refill: Stopping the Production of New Plastic

Our reusable refill pouches are made from plastic waste diverted from landfill and are designed to be refilled and reused over and over and over again. Every refill equals one less new-plastic-bottle being made, used once and thrown away.

Oceans 21

21 million tonnes of plastic flows into our oceans every year. That’s one truck of garbage every minute. Single-use plastic is the main culprit. From March to June 2021, we’re investing $5 from every Starter Box to fund our epic Oceans 21 clean-up projects. If we can inspire 10,000 Aussies to ditch single-use plastic from their kitchen, laundry & bathroom, we’ll have $50,000 in the kitty to clean-up the mess we’ve made. There’s never been a better time to clean your house and clean the ocean! The Result: 16,067 Aussies signed up to ditch single-use plastic from their kitchen, laundry & bathroom, well above our target of 10,000.

Trashure Hunt #1: The World’s Longest Solo Underwater Clean-up

To kick off our clean ups, we headed to Sydney and live streamed a world-first 24 hour underwater clean-up! One of our legendary Zero Co supporters (one of you), Dean Cropp, put up his hand to attempt a 24 hour underwater ocean clean-up in Sydney Harbour to grab as much rubbish as he could. We collected 200kgs of rubbish from the harbour floor and you can watch how it all unfolded here! Some of the plastic Dean collected will be recycled and turned into our next generation of forever bottles to be made here in Australia. Thanks to everyone who helped us out. It was an epic way to begin our clean-up efforts!!

Trashure Hunt #2: The Great Island Clean-up

In June this year, the whole team headed to a paradise island off the coast of QLD to conduct a massive ocean and beach clean-up. And guess what? We collected over 500kgs of rubbish and over 21,000 pieces of plastic including a heap of single thongs, eskys and even plastic chairs.

Carbon Negative Deliveries

Zero Co's eco-products are now delivered to your door (and back to us) carbon negative. Yep you read that right, not carbon neutral, but carbon negative. Wait, what? Is that a thing? It is now. We know this whole global warming, greenhouse gas emissions, carbon footprint stuff can be complicated and often full of jargon that’s hard for the everyday person (and simple types like us) to understand. So here’s a super simple explanation: We deliver our eco-friendly products to your door in trucks and vans. Those vehicles emit CO2 (and other stuff) into the air, which makes the world hotter and hotter and hotter. That’s not a good thing. Today we’re mapping out our plan to play our small part in not just trying to stop this warming, but trying to reverse it. That’s where the carbon negative thing comes in. Here’s how it’s going to work: From today onwards, for every 1KG of carbon dioxide (CO2) that is released into the atmosphere as a result of us delivering our products to your door (and back to us), we’ll remove 2KGs of CO2 from the atmosphere. Making us not just carbon neutral, but carbon negative. It’s simple: we put 1kg of CO2 into the air, we take 2kgs of CO2 out of the air. With every reputable scientist on the planet telling us we need to act urgently and drastically to stop the devastating effects of global warming, we believe that going carbon neutral isn’t enough. We don’t just need to stop adding CO2 to the atmosphere, we need to start removing it. At scale. Immediately. Learn more at: https://www.zeroco.com.au/blogs/news/carbon-negative

Closing the loop on 1,000,000 used pouches

This month our young business achieved an incredible milestone, something we believe to be a world-first. This month 10,000 used pouches made their way through our custom-built pouch cleaning and sanitising machine, proving our zero-waste business model can achieve scale. Hazzah! The journey to get to this moment has been long, winding and full of pot-holes. It’s involved more than a few near misses and outright failures. And as with all great stories it’s also involved a dash of pioneering adventurism, perseverance in the face of adversity and contributions of countless brave souls willing to push beyond the boundaries of what has been done before. So to mark this momentous occasion I thought I’d take the time to share with our community, supporters, friends, family, customers and shareholders the warts-and-all reality of getting to this moment.
