Zea Sustainability Actions

Meet our Impact Partners: 1% of the Planet

In 2020 Zea joined 1% for the Planet. As part of this global movement Zea made an ongoing commitment to support environmental solutions by donating 1% of gross sales each year and through our everyday actions. Since becoming a member we have donated $79,692. Through 1% for the Planet we also supported a variety of other organisations whose values align with ours including: The Wheen Bee Foundation, Greenfleet Australia, Karrkad Kanjdji Trust and One Tree Planted.

B Corp Certified

Becoming a certified B Corp was a proud moment for Zea. Built on the simple fact that business impacts and serves more than just shareholders, certified B Corporations are companies that lead in their ability to meet high standards for social and environmental performance. In becoming a B Corp, Zea publicly committed to continuous improvement and to doing more for the planet and all people. To achieve our B Corp status, we were required to achieve a score of 80 or higher on the B Impact Assessment, incorporate stakeholder governance into our legal structure, and agree to undergo review and recertification every three years.

Locally Owned & Made

As an Australian family business all Zea products are manufactured in Australia using sustainable farming methods. Our ingredients are sustainably sourced. That means we are able to reduce transportation related carbon emissions. We are committed to developing and manufacturing all of our products locally. In doing so, we help retain profits within Australia and create employment opportunities for those within our local communities. All manufacturing, testing, packing, warehousing and distribution are conducted locally. We select ethically, sustainably sourced ingredients, ensuring that both the growers, environment and the people are treated with respect and paid a high premium for the ingredients. Not all of the ingredients we use can be grown in Australia. When this is the case, we responsibly source internationally from suppliers in their native country of origin.

Supporting Local, Sustainable, and Certified Suppliers for a Greener Future

Whenever possible, Zea sources from local suppliers. This helps create jobs and thriving local communities. The bulk of our suppliers are environmentally friendly, producing organic products and goods, using sustainable farming methods and eco-friendly production practices. Many of our farmers, manufacturers and suppliers are committed to sustainable farming and fair trade practices. These farmers do not use artificial fertilisers, pesticides or GMOs when harvesting crops. Many of our suppliers are also COSMOS and cGMP certified, ensuring the quality and sustainability of all ingredients, so we can produce natural products that benefit people and reduce the impact on our planet.

Reducing Waste and Offsetting Carbon

One of the biggest areas we can make a difference is through our supply chain. Since Zea started we have only worked with ethically, sustainably sourced ingredients, ensuring that both the growers, environment and the people are treated with respect and paid a high premium for the ingredients. In 2021 we saw an opportunity to do even better by reviewing our fulfilment processes. All Zea products are now packaged and shipped with our partner Future Fulfilment - a carbon-neutral 3PL. Alongside offsetting our fulfilment activities, all our orders are now packaged with eco-friendly compostable mailers, 99.9% recycled cardboard boxes, recycled hex wrap and compostable corn-starch packaging. We are always looking for ways to reduce waste through our packaging and promotional materials. In 2021 we moved our biggest selling product, the Kunzea Pain Relief Cream to a 32% recycled plastic tube. We also launched our Kunzea Pain Relief Cream (Bulk Size) to help reduce the amount of packaging we put out into the world. Our promotional material is printed on ecoStar+, an environmentally responsible paper made carbon neutral and is FSC Certified Recycled.

We are partnered with Musculoskeletal Health Australia (MHA)

We are proud to be officially partnered with Musculoskeletal Health Australia (MHA), a not-for-profit organisation who support people with arthritis, back pain and over 150 musculoskeletal issues, across Australia. In honour of Musculoskeletal Health Awareness Month this October 2024, we are donating 50c for every 100g Kunzea Pain Relief Cream purchased through our website, to MHA.

Flexible Work Environment

We have Zea staff work from their homes all up and down the east coast of Australia. By providing them with the equipment they need to work remotely, we are able to cut down on our own personal travel and use of commercial resources.

Stay up to date with the latest sustainability updates from Zea.
