As part of Mars Food Australia, MasterFoodsTM is committed to the company’s Sustainable in a Generation Plan, which addresses key areas of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Through it we focus on the impact of our direct operations as well as our entire supply chain. It reflects our commitment to making the world a better place for future generations. Our Sustainable in a Generation Plan has three interconnected strategic pillars we believe are essential for sustainable growth: Healthy Planet – including targets for climate action, water stewardship and land use. Thriving People – focussed on increasing income, respecting human rights and unlocking opportunities for women. Nourishing Wellbeing – ensuring food safety and food security, product renovation to improve nutrition, and responsible marketing.

Sustainably Sourcing Rice Far The Future
Through our Sustainable in a Generation Plan, Mars committed to receiving 100 percent of our rice from farmers working toward Sustainable Rice Platform standards by 2020. We’ve seen incredible progress. According to our 2017-2018 Report, we’re now getting 73 percent of our rice from farmers working toward those standards—up 63 percent from 2016.

Recyclable Packaging
To keep our products fresh our packaging is made of many different kinds of materials - from cardboard boxes for shipping to lightweight papers, glass jars, metal lids and a variety of plastics. Already, 90% of our packaging is recyclable and our goal is to reach 100% by 2025.

Sustainable Packaging
Packaging is at the center of all Mars products, from keeping products safe in transportation and preserving freshness to distinguishing our brands. Mars understands the importance of packaging, which is why we plan to use 100 percent recyclable packaging by 2025. To achieve our goal, we will change more than just the physical packaging. Mars will encourage consumers to dispose of their packaging responsibly. In addition, we will work to change recycling infrastructure by developing a plastic sorting facility to allow for proper recycling for more than 90 percent of after-use plastic.
