Variable Pressure Foaming (VPF)

Joyce is the only Australian foam manufacturer utilising Variable Pressure Foaming (VPF) technology, globally recognised as one of the most environmentally conscious approaches to foam production. VPF is designed to capture emissions, ensuring our process neither uses or emits additional CO2, allowing us to exceed EPA standards. The process contributes to healthier environments by eliminating the need for Auxiliary Blowing Agents (ABAs) and producing virtually no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). By adopting VPF technology, we have successfully reduced our foaming emissions by up to 79% between 2011 and 2020. The launch of our Adelaide facility in 2023 marked the integration of our second VPF machine, affirming our continued investment in sustainable manufacturing practices.

Investing in Renewable Energy

At Joyce, we have committed to actively reducing our reliance on traditional energy sources. Implementing energy-efficient lighting solutions across all Joyce sites is just one step. We are progressively shifting towards solar power, now successfully powering our entire moulded foam line in Victoria using renewable energy. As part of our sustainability initiatives, electric forklifts were introduced at our South Australia site in 2023. Our overall Scope 2 emissions (indirect emissions from Joyce Foam’s operations) were reduced by 451,713 kg of CO2 equivalents in 2021-2022.

Lowering Transport Emissions

Since 2005, Joyce has been compressing foam for transport. This allows us to transport our products using 60% less space, maximising truck capacity and reducing transport requirements. Through compression and partnering with logistics suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, we are striving to reduce transport-related emissions.

Recycling

Our investment into cutting-edge technology and machinery leverages automation, which minimises errors, optimises resource utilisation and reduces our scrap rates. Any foam scrap generated is repurposed for use in carpet underlay. Through our robust reverse logistics system, we collect and recycle foam scraps from our customers' facilities, diverting over 200 tonnes of scrap foam in 2023. Additionally, we are a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation. All raw material containers and plastic wrappings used in our production process undergo recycling through our network of responsible supply chain partners.

Employee Wellbeing

The well-being of our staff is paramount to Joyce. We strive to create a mentally and physically healthy workplace by providing a safe and supportive work environment. Our data shows our efforts are working, and we are proud that the average Joyce employee tenure is 14 years!
