Sustainably Sourced Fruit & Plant Stem Cells

At Enbacci, we are best known for our product formulations that incorporate the power of fruit and plant stem cells. We currently formulate with grape stem cells, apple stem cells and flower stem cells from a flower that has survived that last Ice Age. The technology behind sourcing these ingredients was recognised as an eco breakthrough at the Rio20+ Sustainability Conference in 2012. Very little plant material is required in order to cultivate a large batch of stem cells for product formulation. Therefore, little to no agricultural land is required and as such, there is a significant reduction of water consumption compared to conventional biomass production. There is also no need for fertiliser or pesticides, so these toxins are not being introduced into the environment. The cultivation process supports conservation practices. An example of this is through the variety of apple we use. It is known as the Uttwiler Spätlauber, which is famously known for its longevity and storability. There are, unfortunately, very few trees of the Uttwiler Spätlauber left in the world. As such, this particular variety was integrated into Swiss National Action Plan for the Conservation of Plant Genetic Resources in Food and Agriculture and is protected by the ProSpecie Rara (a Swiss, non-profit foundation whose purpose is to conserve and promote genetic diversity of flora and fauna). A majority of the remaining trees are organically cultivated by local Swiss farmer, who supplies his fruit for stem cell cultivation!

CDS Victoria East Drop Off Point

Enbacci's Melbourne Flagship is now a Container Deposit Scheme over-the-counter drop-off point, helping our community to create a cleaner stream of material for recycling and reduce the number of bottles, cans and containers ending up in landfill or on local streets. Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (VDS Vic) is an initiative that will provide a 10 cent refund to Victorias for every eligible drink container they return, from 1 November 2023.

Hard to Recycle Collection Point

Enbacci's Melbourne Flagship located at 552 High Street, Prahran, VIC, is now a collection point for hard to recycle items. From used batteries, to coffee pods and even balloons, we work with a list of independently run recyclers to prevent these items ending up in landfill. i=Change Partnership

In 2022, Enbacci partnered with i=Change. An organisation that helps e-commerce businesses support a range of local or global projects. A minimum of $1 from every online purchase is donated towards one of three projects of the brands choice. The three projects we support are Empower with Literacy, Protect a Woman and Clean the Seas. Through just these three projects, we are supporting a number of the UN sustainability development goals.

Clean the Seas

Enbacci supports the Clean the Seas project, in partnership with i=Change and The Seabin Project. Over 160 million tons of plastic is produced each year to create single-use disposable items and packaging.With no established system to close the loop, this has led to over 70 years of accumulation of plastics in landfill (40%) and the environment (32%), with only 10% being recycled. Plastics end up in waterways and oceans, breaking down into ever smaller pieces called micro-plastics, well known for entering the food chain through the water, air and food that we consume. Seabin Smart Tech, similar to a rubbish bin X pool skimmer, removes floating plastics as small as 2mm, filtering 600,000L of water per day from oil and surface pollutants. $1 removes 1.2kg of plastic and debris from the sea.

Empower with Literacy

Through our partnership with i=Change, Enbacci supports the Empower with Literacy project. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children continue to fall through the cracks of our education system, trapping them in a cycle of vulnerability and illiteracy. This devastating gap is particularly evident in remote Indigenous communities, where the writing abilities of year 9 students are at year 1 level. If not addressed in the early years, this issue continues into adulthood. In remote areas, up to 70% of Aboriginal adults are ‘functionally illiterate’. This is a national tragedy. We believe literacy is freedom; to take control of your life, be informed, have a voice, stand up for your rights, resist exploitation, be self-confident and self-reliant. Literacy unlocks the door to learning and a world of endless possibilities. The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation is transforming lives through community-driven, ground-breaking and best practice literacy programs. Working in English and Indigenous First Languages, ALNF is committed to creating sustainable, long-term change. $12 pays for a day of specialised literacy support in an Indigenous community.

Protect A Woman

As part of our partnership with i=Change, one of the projects we support is Protect a Woman. The Women's Community Shelters experienced a 25% increase in inquiries for safe accommodation for women and children who are homeless or escaping domestic violence during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Existing services were already at full capacity, with more than 50% of women seeking shelter turned away due to a lack of beds. Across Australia, around 56,000 women are homeless each night, many with young children. Now, there are many more. Women unable to access shelters are left vulnerable, and disconnected from community and support networks. Women’s Community Shelters is dedicated to providing women and children with a safe place to stay and an opportunity to rebuild their lives. $50 provides a hot meal and a safe, comfortable place to stay for one night.

Recyclable Cardboard Shippers

In 2020, Enbacci shifted from dispatching e-commerce orders from poly-mailers to recyclable, low printing, cardboard mailers. These can be safely kerbside recycled when completely collapsed.

Member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation

By becoming a Member of APCO and therefore a Signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant, Members agree to shared commitments and joint responsibilities. Working with Government and Industry to achieve sustainable packaging through material reduction, design, targeted recycling rates, reduced waste to landfill, alternative materials and circular economy activities.
