Eco Interiors Sustainability Profile

Cushions with Conscience

We believe that the human spirit is enriched by living in a beautiful environment; this includes both a unique home that is an extension of oneself AND a beautiful planet whose precious resources are valued and reused. At Eco Interiors we help people create beautiful, unique spaces with custom made, limited edition or one-off soft furnishings. All our cushion covers are handmade here in Australia from unsold fabrics, small pieces of unwanted textiles or environmentally friendly fabrics. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products all of which come with a 5 year workmanship guarantee and automatically qualify for our end of life take-back scheme where all fabrics are reused, repurposed or recycled. We aim to demonstrate the value of textile resources at all stages of their life - down to every last fibre. Together we have the power to create the environment we want to live in.

Eco Interiors Sustainability Actions

Valuing our Textile Resources

We aim to demonstrate the value of our textile resources at all stages of their life - down to every last fibre. Our fabric comes from a wide variety of sources. Wherever possible we use remnants and offcuts from commercial practices and hobby sewers, sample books of discontinued fabric from wholesalers / retailers and deadstock and end of roll fabrics; anything that would generally be classified as waste. If we do purchase new fabrics we ensure they are either: - 100% natural fabrics such as OekoTex certified cotton, hemp and linen purchased from small Australian business with strong environmental policies. - fabrics made from recycled fibres During our sewing process we keep and reuse the smallest strips of left over fabric . Anything that is to small to reuse is recycled as fill for other products. Via our take-back scheme we reward our customers (via discount vouchers) for seeing the inherent value in our textile resources. Products that are returned to us are sorted in to 3 categories: - items that are in excellent second hand condition are rehomed by our second hand market place - items that still have some useable fabric will have that fabric reused and the remainder recycled - items that are unusable are recycled

Supporting Asylum Seekers

We believe when you have a beautiful home nothing is more uplifting than welcoming people in to it - whether it be the four walls of your house or this amazing land, Australia, which we are lucky enough to call home. We believe those who seek asylum from persecution and prejudice overseas should be welcome at our door anytime and so we are happy to beable to donate $2 from every cushion sold to assist the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre in all the work they do, supporting and advocating for those unfortunate enough to between homes.

Carbon Neutral and Plastic Free Shipping

We ship via carbon neutral carriers (Sendle and Australia Post). We use home compostable packing from Hero (compostable in a home compost bin in 90-120 days) or recycled and recyclable packaging (preused cardboard boxes and heavyweight paper satchels). Our shipping labels and tape are compostable. All our promotional material is printed on recycled paper or card. We are trialing a postage paid return system for all our packaging and promotional material so that we can reuse materials if appropriate.
