Better Bedding, Together

The Australian Bedding Stewardship Council (ABSC) partners with bedding manufacturers, suppliers, importers, and retailers to Rethink, Redesign, Reuse, and Recycle bedding, reducing waste and supporting practices that ensure that the bedding industry remains environmentally and commercially sustainable long into the future.  The ABSC Scheme is a voluntary, industry-led product stewardship scheme backed by the Federal Government and with ACCC authorisation. We aim to reduce waste generation and improve recovery of bedding products, in particular, end-of-life mattresses.  

The ABSC is committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in product stewardship. We stand up for the community and the environment and face challenges head-on, encouraging our members to make the bold decisions necessary to protect our planet and ensure a fair and responsible approach to every bedding product’s lifecycle.

Our four strategic pillars guide our project selection and resource investment:  Rethink, Redesign, Reuse, Recycle.

Rethink:  At the ABSC we challenge industry, government and consumers to consider sustainability at every stage, from design to disposal.

Redesign:  Innovative redesign is at the heart of our mission, ensuring that bedding products are built to last, reuse and enable resource recovery. 

Reuse:  The ABSC advocates for a culture of reuse in the bedding industry, extending life products and ensuring that every Australian has access to comfortable sleep. 

Recycle:  The ABSC’s commitment to expanding recycling access not only reduces waste but also helps generate jobs in the sustainability sector, fuelling economic growth alongside environmental responsibility.
