Sustainable Choice Group today announced global small business platform Xero as the presenting partner for the inaugural Sustainability Tracker Impact Awards to be held in Sydney this March.
The Sustainability Tracker Impact Awards program is the first of its kind in Australia, designed to celebrate progress, effort, and transparency in business sustainability.
“Business leaders often underestimate the potential of individual organisations to have a lasting positive impact on the world. Through this partnership, we’re helping to recognise and celebrate those making meaningful strides toward sustainability,” says Dr. Tamara Somers, General Manager of Sustainability and Impact at Xero.
The collaboration aligns with Xero’s commitment to supporting small businesses in their sustainability journey, with research showing that 68% want to operate more sustainably but many don’t know where to begin.
“Our message is to start somewhere and start small. You don’t have to change the world by tomorrow,” explains Dr. Somers. “This awards program will showcase the businesses taking those crucial first steps and inspire others to follow suit.”
This collaboration marks a significant milestone for the Sustainable Choice Group as Xero also becomes the first FinTech company to publicly share their sustainability efforts on Sustainability Tracker, a flagship platform of Sustainable Choice Group.
“The world often views sustainability as black and white – either a business is sustainable or it’s not,” says Sustainability Tracker founder and CEO Kiarne Treacy. “We’ve created a program that recognises transparency, and celebrates milestones, achievements and progress along the way. More importantly, we’re fostering healthy, open dialogues between businesses and their customers about sustainability – without judgment or criticism. That’s exactly what Sustainability Tracker is all about.”
“This partnership marks a pivotal moment for sustainable business practices in Australia,” says Treacy. “Xero’s deep connection with the small business sector, combined with our expertise in sustainability communications, creates a powerful platform for change. Together, we’re not just supporting businesses, we’re reshaping how small and medium enterprises approach sustainability.”
Sustainable Choice Group ( parent company of Sustainability Tracker ) brings extensive experience in business networking and sustainability events through its Leaders in Sustainability Network, which hosts regular online and in-person events throughout the year.
“It’s not lost on us that in-person events can be high emitters and we don’t take it lightly. We surveyed our judges and nominees to ensure an in-person awards event would be valuable to them, overwhelmingly, the response was yes,” says Treacy. “With our community of sustainability leaders often working in silos, human connection, coupled with opportunities for learning and collaboration is repeatedly cited as a critical factor in making true progress.” she said.
To ensure the event is conducted in a considered and low impact way, Sustainable Choice Group has engaged Frank Wild, an expert sustainable event agency. This collaboration aims to create an event with minimal emissions and waste, along with a commitment to making a financial contribution to climate projects that doubles the event’s calculated emissions output.
Treacy notes the importance of purpose-driven partnerships to make projects like this one possible. “When innovative and influential companies like Xero step up to champion sustainability initiatives, it creates a positive ripple effect within the business community. I’m genuinely excited about the possibilities this partnership brings for us and the businesses across Australia.”
