At Europcar, we understand the importance of protecting the environment. That’s why we’re committed to reducing our fleet’s environmental impact and offering our customers the opportunity to do the same. Since 2007, we have proudly partnered with Greenfleet, a leading environmental not-for-profit organisation, to offset our carbon emissions and contribute to environmental conservation efforts in Australia and New Zealand.
Reducing Our Fleet Carbon Footprint
Through our partnership with Greenfleet, Europcar provides renters with the option to offset their carbon emissions through native reforestation. We keep our customers informed on how they can drive in a safe and efficient manner, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Encouraging customers, suppliers, and employees to participate in Greenfleet programs and other sustainability initiatives, is a vital part of our commitment to environmental responsibility.
Offsetting Carbon Emission
Europcar Australia & New Zealand and its customers have donated over $618,000 to offset carbon emissions from vehicle rentals. These funds contribute to Greenfleet’s native forest restoration projects that remove our emissions as they grow. Since 2007, Europcar has supported projects in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and New Zealand.
As part of our long-term partnership with Greenfleet, Europcar employees have personally planted over 2,000 native trees at tree planting days, further contributing to our carbon offset initiatives.
When you choose Europcar, you have the option to offset your rental’s carbon emissions by supporting Greenfleet’s native reforestation projects. By donating towards planting native trees, you directly contribute to offsetting a portion of your rental emissions, thus reducing the environmental impact of your rental.
Our Positive Environmental Impact
Thanks to our customers’ generous donations and Europcar’s continued support, we have successfully offset over 50,000 tonnes of carbon emissions since 2007. These tonnes are being removed by legally protected native forests in Australia and New Zealand.
One of our significant contributions was towards completing a project that restored natural habitat for koalas along the Great Ocean Road, one of the world’s most scenic coastal drives.
Visitors from around the world travel to the Great Ocean Road not only to experience its breathtaking beauty but also to catch a glimpse of koalas in their natural habitat. Our customers have the power to take tangible climate action towards protecting and re-building koala habitat by donating each time they rent with us. Europcar have also contributed to the reforestation of Glendalough, Lyrebird & Bromfields in Victoria and Dangerbridge in Queensland.
About Greenfleet
Greenfleet is an environmental not-for-profit organisation dedicated to protecting our climate by restoring forests. Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted 10.8 million native trees and restored more than 550 biodiverse forests across Australia and New Zealand to offset carbon emissions on behalf of its supporters.
As Australia’s first carbon offset provider, Greenfleet has delivered climate action for over 25 years. The forests planted by Greenfleet are legally protected for up to 100 years and provide many environmental benefits, including drawing down carbon from the atmosphere, growing critical habitat for koalas and other wildlife, conserving biodiversity, and improving the quality of waterways, air, and soils.
